At Hampsten Cycles we continue to fine-tune our Gran Paradiso line of lightweight skinny-tire road frames featuring rim brakes . All versions – Il Barone, Levico, Squadra, and Titanio – are intended for fast road riding, butt-kicking on weekends, and/or full-on racing. This model works best with tires in the 25 to 32mm range. All Gran Paradiso frames are built as custom and designed right here at HampCo Seattle.
Steel
Il Barone features a mix of 31.8mm and 35mm Columbus Omnicrom steel main tubes with varying wall thickness to suit the needs of each rider. This is our new flagship steel frame, pairs best with the Enve road fork, and takes up to a 30 or 32mm tire. We can also build this in Scalatore configuration for your inner climber: lighter tubing, sloping top tube, and a little cush built in for those pot-holed descents. For you extroverts we’re now offering Columbus’ bi-ovalized MAX tubes in this category - or bigger tubes yet, for the true Superissimo experience.
Levico is our tribute to the one-off steel frame Dario Pegoretti built for Hampsten Cycles as a 20th anniversary nod to Andy’s 1988 Giro win – including his TT win at Levico Therme. We take the rear end from Scalatore, add a welded front triangle using traditionally-sized 28.6mm/31.8mm tubes, and the straight steel fork from Strada Bianca and it looks classic and rides great. A greatest hits compilation, you might say.
Titanium
Our Titanio frames are welded and fabricated in Steamboat Springs, CO, by Brad Bingham with US-made titanium tubing and are optimized for the height and weight of each customer. We offer two choices of finish:
Bead-blasted – the standard Moots or Bingham/Eriksen finish, it holds up well and may be freshened with Pledge or Pedro’s Bike Lust.
Paint – good, old-fashioned color, full or partial. Add 1-3 months for this, $$$.
